What is the No Borders Camp?

It is a space, in which information shall be created related to the borders and the problems that they create in communities, and society in its entirety. Moreover it will serve as a to familiarize ourselves, organize ourselves, and know about the struggles that each one of us carry in our places of origin. And why not create many more joint actions in the future?

What is the camp trying to accomplish or what is the objective?

That it will be a space where we can find ourselves without a single border, without being divided by nationalities or ideology, this being a temporary zone without control or guidance from Nation-state and capitalist relations.

Who is organizing the No Borders Camp?

There are many collectives, individuals and organizations that have been involved in the planning of the No Borders Camp. The organizing of the camp has progressed through thousands of conversations, in workshops, encuentros and other events that happened previously. The process began a year ago, and is still developing. We are working together on both sides of the border, sharing and learning and working towards this mobilization. If you are planning to come to the camp, well, the correct answer to the question above is you.

And what will happen while this takes place?

We envision a festive environment of resistance, peaceful civil disobedience where there shall be marches, meetings, direct actions, and forums countering the arbitrary detentions of migrants, the detention centers, the exploitation of labor on the borders, the border militarization and the wall and even as artistic expressions in repudiation of the structures that support said system.

Why is this happening in the month of November?

This day is chosen as a of the falling of the Berlin Wall in Germany in November of 1989, a symbol of the intolerance of Nations and the economic systems of those days. Today that capitalism is the only system for different countries to follow demonstrates that it is so horrible for freedom of movement as its homonym of those days, soviet socialism (capitalism of the state), and even the United States being one of the principal promoters of freedom of movement for capital, without doubt one of the many contradictions of the capitalist system and its principal promoter.

Are you going to ask for permission to campout?

Of course not. Since this is a direct action that seeks the destruction of imposed borders, it would be a mistake to ask for a permit from the governments that impose this as it is already a part of the irrational structures that create it and is in no way its solution.

And, with whom do I have to register or what do I do to be admitted?

Just attend the camp and if you have the chance participate in the different working groups that shall be created for a better coexistence and organization of the event, such as security, food, first-aide, amongst others.

How will the organization be within this?

Before everything it should be understood that this is an antiauthoritarian movement, without leaders, protagonisms, constructed in a collective way, autonomous, and horizontal, so if you are a person that is not in agreement with the previous, we think that you will be hitting yourselves in the head.

What should I bring to go camping?

* Camping tents.
* Sleeping bag.
* Bring your respective medicines if you have an illness and as well as what you need to freshen up.
* Plates and utensils, since it has been decided not to make expenses of this type.
* Food, if you have the chance, water and all that you need to sustain yourself.
* Flashlight and batteries and you can also donate one.
* Insect repellent
* Comfortable clothing remember that we will be in the desert, so it’s hot during the day (bring your hat) and at night it gets very cold.
* Also bring your plans of actions and workshops that you propose.
* Although we will be in the city, the disposition of the camp will be primitive. Toilet paper and other toiletries are important.
* Bring puppets, paint sign, drums, bagpipes, trumpets, tubas.
* If you have tech gear, video cameras, computers, large tents, bullhorn, a battery powered PA, a projector, a huge stove, propane tanks, large water containers, outdoor lights, medical supplies or solar panels, bring them too!
And what should I not bring?
We suggest that you do not bring firearms, glass, alcohol or drugs.
Do I have to pay money to be in the camp?
No! It will be a space for everyone, and you won’t even be charged a nickel, don’t get deceived without hesitation any donation will be gratefully received, any help is welcome. Remember that mutual aid carries us to evolve, Re-evolve.

What kind of legal issues may come up? What level of police presence should we expect?

There will be many different actions during the week of the camp – some of which will happen on site, and others will happen away from the camp itself.

The best way to prepare for any legal issues or police presence is to discuss this with your comrades to figure out your level of risk beforehand.

There are multiple law enforcement agencies that operate with interlaced jurisdictions. You will have to show your identification to the authorities, if they ask. With that exception, don’t answer any question from the police, even if they arrest you. Ask to speak with your attorney. If they get you, make sure that someone close to you knows what is happening and yell your name if nobody knows who you are.
The behavior and protocol of law enforcement, as well as legal ramifications of different activities may very drastically depending on whether you are in the United States or Mexico.

We cannot guarantee the security of anybody who does not have papers on the side you are on, whether American or Mexican but, in all matters, we will not be divided based on our legal status. We encourage everybody to travel in groups to and from the camp and during any actions. If the police stop you, do not allow yourself to be isolated; our best defense is always sticking together. In spite of that, it is important that we all take risks seriously.

The No Borders Camp is about claiming autonomous space.
We are not seeking confrontation with the police; the tactics we will employ will be based on principles of sticking together and by any manner conflict de-escalation. We will be discussing camp security in greater detail leading up to and during the camp.

What position will the camp have with the capitalist press?

If they were allowed entrance, not to allow them to walk around freely would be against the spirit of the camp which is to allow people to walk around freely, but this doesn’t mean they will be very welcomed, now that we are convinced that they only distort information when it is not convenient or for the government, nor for them and their clients. On the other hand, the organizers of the No Borders Camp will specifically present a daily statement to those who are interested. The only press who will be welcomed are independent or alternative media.

What can I help with leading up to and during the camp?

In spreading the word as widely as you can, as well as also getting in contact with the organization so that you can find out how to support, remember that if we are many this will become far better.
